Your Drapery Purchasing Guide:

Your Drapery Purchasing Guide:

What to Consider During your Drapery Buying Process?

Finding the right custom window treatment for your residential or commercial space is not an easy task. Even when you find the right solution, it can be difficult to determine the perfect style or design. This rings especially true for drapery.

Here are a few things to focus on during your drapery purchasing process.

1.       Function

Are you looking to install new drapery solely for aesthetics or is function important to your decision as well?

Functions Include:

a. Room darkening
b. Light filtering
c. Insulating
d. Privacy Enhancing

2.       Hardware

Normally when you think of hanging drapery or curtains, you may envision the traditional method of installing them on a wooden or metal drapery rod, but drapery solutions have evolved to much more than that.

There is now a wide variety of hardware options you can choose from. Some of these options include:

a. Drapery Tracks:
Drapery tracks are a great option if you are looking to mount your curtains or drapery on the ceiling, within window/ceiling pockets, or within a window frame. Tracks also create a nice clean and discreet look that doesn’t clash with your existing décor as well as offering the ability to draw your draperies by hand pulley, baton draw or automation for extra convenience and efficiency.

b. Basic Traverse Rod:
A traverse rod is a perfect mix of a traditional rod with the function of a track. A traverse rod allows you to hang your curtains ring-free and offers ease of movement by the use of a hand pulley system to open and close your window treatment. A basic traverse rod is best used when hidden (behind a valance or cornice) or when wanting the most cost-effective hardware choice.

c. Drapery Arm:
A drapery arm is a very short segment of drapery rod used for decorative stationary side panels.

d. Decorative Drapery Rod
Unlike your traditional curtain rod, decorative rods have a bit more appeal and create a more customized look with endless designs to compliment your interior.

   3.   Style

Choosing a specific style can really help bring your space together, just the pleat choices alone can make a big difference. Whether you have a modern, contemporary, mid-century or traditional interior, our sales team at Ford Window Treatments can direct you to the perfect options such as:

a. Traditional pleat
b. Euro pleat
c. Inverted pleat
d. Ripplefold pleat
e. Grommet style

4. Length

Choosing the wrong panel length is the most common mistake made, especially if you are purchasing draperies without the help of a professional.

Most panels are sold in a standard length of 84 inches. With this standard sizing, you’ll find that it may either be too long or too short.

Having a professional custom measure and custom make your draperies is the best way to avoid any sizing mistakes.

Shopping for the perfect curtain solution can be a bit overwhelming. Having an experienced window treatment professional by your side can help take this pressure off your shoulders.
